Defensible Space and Home Hardening Assessment Program

Have you ever wondered what you can do to protect your home from wildfire? Not sure where to start or what would be the best use of your time and money? We have trained volunteers who can help you understand what works and why, where to start, and what help might be available. This service is free and open to all residents of the western slope of El Dorado County (not available in South Lake Tahoe).

What to Expect

A trained assessor will schedule an appoint with you to come out and walk with you around your property and the outside of your home. They will discuss their observations with you and answer your questions. You will be given a form that summarizes their observations, explains what is required by law and what additional items are suggested to make your home more fire resilient. This form and the assessment, can not be used as a formal inspection for insurance, real estate transactions, or in the place of a formal inspection by a fire agency. It is for educational use only!

During the assessment, our trained volunteers will:

  • Evaluate your property for vulnerabilities.
  • Provide personalized recommendations to enhance safety.
  • Share best practices to protect your home and surrounding areas from wildfire.

This program empowers homeowners with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about protecting their property. The assessment is free and does not involve enforcement or insurance companies.

Take advantage of this valuable resource to create a safer environment for your family and community.
