In order to post news releases of any kind (general info posts, news releases, CDF posts), you can do so from any page in the administrative panel. On the toolbar at the top of the screen, there will be a button that reads “+ Add.” If you move your mouse over this, a drop down will appear, where you should select “Post”:
The “new post” page will load, where you can enter the content for the post. The “Enter Title Here” field will be the title of the post, and the large box underneath will contain the content:
The content can include text (edited using the buttons above the box) and photos (added using the “Add Media” button and either selecting a previously uploaded image or dragging and dropping a new image on the resulting screen). Any content will be reflected as formatted on the final product.
Once your content is formatted, you will want to select a category from the box on the right:
This selection will determine how the post is categorized and filed within the system. You can select as few or as many categories as you like, and can use the “Add New Category” link to create new filing spots.
You can simply click the blue “Publish” button on the right and the post will go live immediately with the current time as it’s post date (and will also be pushed out to Facebook), or you can change the options below for more customization.
Backdating Posts
If you want to change the date the post is filed under (creating archived posts), prior to clicking “Publish” you can click the “Edit” link by “Publish immediately” on the right to expand the post date dialog and change the date and time:
Simply change the details here and click “OK” before Publishing to change the date the post will initially be filed under.
Altering Facebook Posting Functions
If you want to prevent a new post from being pushed to the Facebook (for example, if you’re creating an archived post to save but don’t necessarily want it pushed out as new content), you can click the “Edit” link by the Publicize heading (just under where you edited the post date), which will expand the social posting dialog:
From here you can uncheck the box to prevent the post from being posted to Facebook or change the message that will accompany the Facebook posting. If other social networks (Tumblr, Twitter) are added to this automation in the future, they will also show options here.
Tags
If you want to increase the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of the post, Tags are a key necessity. Beneath the Category box, the Tags box will allow you to add additional keywords to the post that will make it more searchable. Simply add keywords to this box (each separated by a comma):
… and then click the “Add” button to save your listing of tags. This should definitely be done prior to initial posting to maximize the effect on a post’s SEO and visibility.
Editing
If you want to change the content of a page or a post, simply click on their heading on the main menu to the left:
This will load a listing of all posts and pages in the system. You can click on the title of any post or page to load the full editing page (exactly like the new post / page screen but pre-populated with the current content) or use the “Quick Edit” link under each post to access some commonly edited settings for that specific item.
