Camino - Unit Chief Kelly Keenan of the Amador-El Dorado Unit of CAL FIRE would like to remind everyone that "El Dorado County local ordinance #8.08.050 forbids the use and possession of fireworks, including "safe and sane" fireworks commonly sold in surrounding areas like Sacramento because of the risk of wildfires. Every year CAL FIRE responds to wildland fires caused by safe and sane fireworks, putting people's lives and property in jeopardy. There is "zero tolerance" when it comes to the use or possession of fireworks in El Dorado County by CAL FIRE, local fire districts and the local law enforcement agencies. I urge you to please play by the rules and set the best example for your family and neighbors and don't buy fireworks and bring them into this county. If you do and you get caught, not only will your fireworks be confiscated, you may be cited, facing misdemeanor charges that include up to SIX months in jail or a $500 fine or both. It isn't worth the risk, especially when we have a several excellent fireworks displays for everyone to enjoy." Chief Keenan is encouraging everyone in El Dorado County to celebrate Independence Day by attending one of the following local events:
"These events are a great place to celebrate Independence Day with your friends and family" says Chief Kelly Keenan, "and it is the safest way to enjoy a fireworks display. -END-
