Burn Restrictions Lifted in AEU

Camino - On Wednesday, October 5, at 10 AM, the Amador-El Dorado Unit (AEU) of CAL FIRE will rescind the current burn restrictions. Cooler weather and recent rains will allow CAL FIRE to lift the burn suspension. AEU will also begin transitioning towards "winter preparedness levels" on October 10, 2011. This transition allows AEU to release some seasonal firefighters and eventually close some remote wildland fire stations over the following weeks. However, CAL FIRE is always prepared to call resources back if fire weather conditions dictate.

Burn permits will still be required until the end of fire season has been declared. Burn permits can be obtained for FREE at most fire stations. Please call your local fire station to determine if you can obtain a fire permit at that location. The local Air Quality Management District (AQMD) or Air Pollution Control District (APCD) govern burn/no burn day status so please make sure you call the burn information line immediately prior to burning.

Unit Chief Kelly Keenan adds, "This is an excellent opportunity to work on your defensible space. Establishing the 100 foot barrier around your home and outbuildings on your property is the best defense against a wildfire. After you call your local AQMD or APCD this change in weather will allow you to pile and burn the vegetation generated from your outdoor work, the time is now."
